Fire Up the Grill: Tailgate Season Is Here
There’s something about September that makes us want to fire up the grill. The temperatures start to cool down, football is back, and weekends suddenly come with a very important question: What are we eating?
Whether you’re headed to the stadium, setting up in a parking lot or watching the game from your own backyard, tailgate food should check a few boxes. It needs to be easy to make, easy to eat and, most importantly, worth coming back for seconds. At J2BBQ and Gratitude Catering, we believe some of the best memories happen around food. Tailgate season just gives us another excuse to gather around the grill.
A Few Tips for Better Tailgate Grilling
You don’t need a complicated menu to make your tailgate memorable. In fact, keeping things simple usually means you get to spend more time enjoying the game and less time managing the food.
Prep before you go. Chop vegetables, season meat, mix sauces and assemble anything you can at home. The less you have to do once you arrive, the better.
Think beyond burgers and hot dogs. They’re classics for a reason, but chicken skewers, smoked sausage, sliders, grilled vegetables and even grilled fruit are easy ways to change things up.
Give the grill time to get hot. One of the biggest grilling mistakes is putting food on too soon. A properly preheated grill helps create that flavorful sear while keeping food from sticking.
Keep a cooler just for food. Drinks mean the cooler gets opened constantly. Keeping raw meats and other perishable ingredients in a separate cooler helps them stay safely chilled until you’re ready to cook.
And here’s one more tip: make more than you think you need. Tailgate food has a funny way of attracting people.
Good Food Makes Game Day Better
The final score may be out of your control, but the food doesn’t have to be. September is made for gathering… around the grill, around the TV and around the table. So invite a few friends, break out the folding chairs, turn on the game and make something worth sharing.
And if feeding the whole crew sounds like more work than fun, that’s where we come in. J2BBQ and Gratitude Catering can help you spend less time worrying about the food and more time enjoying the people around you.
Here’s to good food, good company and a great tailgate season.
